Vehicle leaves highway in early morning fatal accident on I-20

FORNEY, Texas – A vehicle left the highway near an overpass after colliding with another vehicle on eastbound I-20 near Farm-to-Market (FM) 740 in Kaufman County on Saturday morning, June 21, 2014.

One person has been confirmed deceased at the scene, one other person was transported to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, in serious condition, and two others were sent to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Mesquite police have identified the man killed in the accident as 50-year-old Dr. John Malonis of Fort Worth, Texas.

One vehicle remained on I-20 after the accident and the other veered off the highway just before the FM 740 overpass where it went airborne and landed on FM 740, rolling several times. The right lane of I-20 and the FM 740 underpass were closed during the accident investigation which is still ongoing as of 8:40 a.m.

The Forney Fire Department and Mesquite Fire Department both worked the accident scene. The accident was within Mesquite Fire Department Station 7's district.

The accident is being investigated by the Mesquite Police Department.
