Shortly after 11:30 a.m. on October 12, 2013, a white Mercury SUV traveling westbound on US Highway 80 in Forney, Texas, was involved in a single-vehicle rollover accident. The accident occurred just before the FM 548 overpass near Pizza Hut.

According to witnesses and evidence at the scene, the SUV rolled approximately four or five times before landing back on its wheels. One male occupant of the vehicle was ejected and landed approximately 15 feet from the vehicle. A dog, who was also in the vehicle, was ejected, according to a witness in a car behind the wrecked vehicle. No other vehicles were involved in the accident and no fatalities were reported at the scene, according to the Forney Fire Department.

Four adult passengers were in the SUV with Tennessee plates. Two of the passengers were transported by ETMC ambulance to area hospitals in non-critical condition. The other two passengers were transported by CareFlite and Air Evac in critical condition to Baylor and Parkland. The dog was taken by Forney Animal Control at the scene and did not have any visible wounds.

Both westbound lanes of US Highway 80 were closed at the FM 548 exit and a landing zone was set up west of the accident scene for the medical helicopters. US Highway 80 was later reopened approximately an hour and a half after being closed.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Forney Police Department. The Mercury SUV was the only vehicle involved in the accident. All four passengers are believed to be from Tennessee and several pieces of luggage and other travel accessories were in the vehicle.
