FORNEY, Texas — Two longstanding volunteer firefighters were recognized on Monday night for their efforts with the Forney Fire Department.
Jamie Barkham, a 29-year veteran of the volunteer department, was awarded the Lifesaving Award for his actions on a medical-related call earlier this year.
“Barkham was part of a fire department crew that responded to a person in respiratory distress,” stated Forney Fire Department Chief Rick Townsend. “The patient rapidly deteriorated to an unresponsive and life-threatening state.”
“With quick action, crews were able to stabilize the patient and restore her breathing while en route to the emergency room for more advanced treatment,” stated Townsend who said the woman later recovered in the hospital.
“For his part, Jamie was recommended for a Lifesaving Award and approved by the Meritorious Conduct Awards Committee,” stated Townsend.
Jesse Wood, who announced his retirement from the volunteer fire department, was also recognized for more than 27 years of service. Wood served from February 1, 1988, through May 5, 2015.
“Jesse has served our community in many capacities over the years as a firefighter, animal control officer, emergency medical instructor, peace officer, emergency medical technician, working for the county fire marshal’s office, and many more ways,” Townsend said.
