On Friday, November 30, Forney's Walmart store presented Forney Fire Chief Rick Townsend with a check for $800 to help the Forney Fire Department pay for educational materials to be used throughout Forney. This Public Safety Grant has become a yearly tradition from Walmart.
Walmart Manager Chad Gillepsie and Office Assistant Sheila Sartoris were joined by a dozen employees to give the symbolic oversized check to Chief Townsend. The Chief told the employees, “You've been a great partner with us. This turned into an annual event, which we are very thankful for.” Walmart donates money to the FFD each year, and Chief Townsend said those funds help offset the cost of educational materials used to teach fire safety.

Already this year, members of the Forney Fire Department have spoken with over 4000 kids at local schools, daycares, and churches. They taught them fire prevention tips and how to update smoke alarms. Firefighter Kaci Byford conducts a fire prevention clown program, and all of the firefighters participate in the program.
The Chief said they also teach children about how and when to call 9-1-1. He thanked Walmart for being a “great partner for many, many years.”
