Forney, Texas – If you haven't started preparing yourself for the 2013 Unity Bowl, you'd better start now. The second annual Community Parade kicks off the Unity Bowl festivities tomorrow morning, October 19, 2013, at 10 a.m.
The Community Parade, also known as the Unity Parade, is once again being organized by the Forney Lion's Club. The parade will begin at Warren Middle School at 10 a.m. and will follow Bois D' Arc Street into downtown Forney. The parade route will turn east onto East Main Street and then south on South Center Street.
Most Forney Independent School District organizations will be participating in the parade including both Forney High School and North Forney High School's football teams, cheerleaders, marching bands, and dance teams.
The Unity Bowl festivities will continue throughout next week with both schools competing in a community canned and boxed food drive that will benefit the Forney Food Pantry.
The big game is set to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. at City Bank Stadium on Friday, October, 25, 2013. But before both teams take the field, there will be a community pep-rally at the 2nd Annual Unity Bowl Tailgate Party at the Mick Spellman Amphitheater in the Forney Community Park.
There will be a free concert featuring Texas Country Artist John David Kent and free barbeque for the first 1,500 people. Again, most school organizations able to attend the event, who aren't prepping for the game day, will be in attendance. The tailgate party will be from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The Forney Community Park also serves as the overflow parking for the Unity Bowl game and Forney ISD will be providing free shuttles to and from the game.
Once the cleats hit the field and the helmets are strapped on, all bets are off. North Foney will look to settle the score against Unity Bowl defending champs Forney High School in what is expected to be an exciting matchup. This week, Forney remains winless in District 10-4A, 0-3, and North Forney is 1-2 with a win in their district opener against Terrell (0-3).
Forney will play Terrell tonight at Tiger Stadium and needs a win to go into the bowl with a district record of 1-3. North Forney is set to play Carrollton Newman Smith (1-2) at City Bank Stadium tonight.
“Depending on what happens tonight, these two teams could be fighting for their playoff spot against their biggest rival. That only ratchets up the intensity of the game, as if that were a concern,” said inForney.com Sports Writer and Sportsgram Sports Broadcaster Tony Gonzalez. “If both teams are already out of the playoff race, then it becomes a battle for pride and that season 'saving' win will be hard fought.”
The only win/loss game indicator is both teams loss against Highland Park. Highland Park amassed more than 50 points against both teams, 52 against Forney and 56 and North Forney the next week. However, Forney was able to put up 17 points to North Forney's 3. Highland Park is ranked #1 in District 10-4A, is undefeated in district, and 6-1 overall for the season.
The Gonzo Report's Tony Gonzalez predicts a 20-17 win for Forney High School over North Forney High School. Include your predictions below in the comments.
