FORNEY, Texas — The mayors of the City of Terrell and City of Kaufman have entered into a friendly wager for the district opener between the two District 8-4A opponents.

FORNEY, Texas — The mayors of the City of Terrell and City of Kaufman have entered into a friendly wager for the district opener between the two District 8-4A opponents.

The Terrell High School (3-1, 0-0) Tigers are set to take on the Kaufman High School (2-2, 0-0) Lions in their District 8-4A opener on Friday night in Kaufman at 7:30 p.m.

Terrell Mayor DJ Ory and Kaufman Mayor Jeff Jordan entered a “friendly wager” yesterday. The mayor of the losing team will have to wear the opposing team’s football jersey to their next city council meeting.

The Tigers will enter the game on a two-game win streak having beat Forney and Lindale, 45-16 and 38-14, respectively. Kaufman will enter with a 45-3 win over Denton Braswell.

The teams have somewhat comparable stats going into the game, according to available statistics compiled by the Dallas Morning News.

Kaufman has, on average, scored 34 points per game, allowed 26 points per game, accumulated 367.5 yards per game, and allowed 235.2 yards per game, according to the News statistics which do not include game stats from their matchup with Mineloa.

Terrell has, on average, scored 32.3 points per game, allowed 12.8 points per game, accumulated 312 yards per game, and allowed 251 yards per game.

Both teams have played Lindale in non-district. Terrell defeated Lindale 38-14 and Kaufman lost to Lindale, 39-42.

Stat leaders for the Tigers include Tiyea Sanders who has thrown for 164 yards, a touchdown, and rushed for another 152 yards and four touchdowns. Elijah McQueen leads the Tigers rushing game with 581yards and six touchdowns. Zakabariun Porter leads the Tigers receiving with 52 yards.

State leaders in Kaufman, according to game stats compiled in three of the team’s four matchups, Trey Collier has thrown for 225 yards and three touchdowns. Jefferson Fritz has passed for 181 yards and a touchdown, rushed for 280 yards and three touchdowns, and received for another 64 yards and a touchdown. Casey Smith has received for 205 yards and three touchdowns.
