After a two year absence the Forney Jackrabbits return to the playoffs

The last game of the regular season was essentially a playoff game with the winner advancing and the loser left to wonder what could have been. For the second time this year, the Jackrabbits travelled to Carrollton’s Standridge Stadium on Thursday, November 8, 2012, and came away victorious. The opponent this time was the Newman Smith Trojans, who fell to an obviously fired up Forney team by a final of 38-6.

For the second time this year, the Jackrabbits travelled to Carrollton’s Standridge Stadium on Thursday, November 8, 2012, and came away victorious. The opponent this time was the Newman Smith Trojans, who fell to an obviously fired up Forney team by a final of 38-6.

In contrast to the earlier game at this location, the spark that made the Jackrabbit offense go was not an injured Clayton Chadwick, but rather a surprising Darius Jenkins who managed over 200 yards on the ground to propel Forney back to the 4A playoffs. Jenkins’ break out game was courtesy of an offensive line that manhandled the Trojans front 7 all night long. Jack King also took advantage and spread out three passing touchdowns on the night.

The Jackarabbits first round opponent is yet to be determined. It is most likely the Prosper Eagles, a very strong team, but it will not be known for sure until late Friday or possibly Saturday morning. Forney’s last two playoff appearances in the 4A classification were short lived as they came up against powerful Waxahachie and Corsicana teams back in 2008 and 2009 respectively. Stay tuned to inForney.com for all the latest updates on the first round playoff game.

Forney totaled 385 offensive yards with 319 rushing yards. Darius Jenkins rushed for 215 yards and 1 touchdown on the night. Jack King threw for three touchdown passes to Jacob Norris, Lane Johnson, and Jimmy Summerall.
