SCURRY, Texas — Scurry-Rosser football coach Mark Bachtel was moved out of ICU on Monday after being hospitalized last month from a fall at a football game.
Bachtel was moved to a private room but his road to recover remains long, according to a family update on Facebook on Tuesday morning. “He is following commands a bit more consistently, but is still not oriented to his injury or the fact that he is in the hospital,” read the statement.
Earlier this month, Bachtel was unresponsive to verbal commands having suffered a brain injury including multiple skull fractures and severe head trauma.
The Bachtel family is asking for continued prayers for “Papa” Bachtel that he will pass his swallow test which will allow him to drink water for the first time since his injury; that his stomach issues will subside; that he will become oriented to his name, his injury, and that he is in the hospital; and prayers for the Bachtel family and Bachtel’s wife, Betty, along this challenging road to recovery.
