FORNEY, Texas (Texas High School BASS Association) β On an unusually hot mid-September day, the Central Division opened up their season on Lake Ray Hubbard as the weigh-in was held off site at Rockwall High School and two teams really showed out as it was the Crandall Pirates and the Kaufman Lions that took control of the event, locking down the top 4 places in the tournament.
Most teams found the fishing to be a little tough, as only 6 limits were brought in out of 135 teams. Also, there were a few largemouth brought to the scales that were under the 14β minimum. Please make sure everyone in the boat can correctly identify the difference in a largemouth bass and a spotted bass. Attached is a TP&W Bass Identification Chart. Some bass were barely touching 14β, which made the anglers sigh in relief. If you want to get the same board as the βOfficial Measuring Board of the THSBAβ, visit the Texas Nameplate Company website at www.nameplate.com and order yourself one of their boards. They can put any logo you choose on the boards.
Bringing in the top weight of the tournament (and only 1 of 6 five fish limits weighed in) was the Crandall Pirate duo of Adam Foster / Jacob Reed. Their catch tipped the scales at 19.17 pounds, which also included the tournaments big bass weighing 8.03 pounds. Until Adam and Jacob brought in their 8.03 pound bruiser, there was a tie for big bass as a team from Sachse and a team from Athens both brought in a fish weighing 7.36 pounds. With the win and big bass, Adam and Jacob received the boat captain side pot scholarship, Abu Garcia reels, plaques and a certificate from Costa Del Mar for a pair of sunglasses. The winning boat captain also received a plaque and an ENGEL 22 oz. stainless steel tumbler as part of our sponsorship with ENGEL Coolers.
Rounding out the Top 5 were:
2 β Lane McKenzie / Easton Foster, Kaufman (17.51)
3 β Ethan Thurston / Trystin Garrison, Kaufman (15.59)
4 β Alyssa Clements / Jeremy Weed, Crandall (11.65)
5 β Trey Jackson / Alex Gause, Caddo Mills (11.61)
The competition for the School Champions trophy was tight, but coming out on top was the Kaufman Lions. Their top 3 weights came in at 39.59 pounds. Kaufman takes the early lead in the Central Division for the Team of the Year title. Remember, the Team of the Year gets to bring their entire team to the Regionals, providing all students meet the 3 tournaments fished criteria.
Rounding out the Top 5 in the TOY race are:
2 β Crandall Pirates (38.85)
3 - Caddo Mills Foxes (22.09)
4 β Athens Hornets (22.08)
5 β Quinlan Ford Panthers (18.54)
