KAUFMAN, Texas — Cross country runners from Crandall and Kaufman took top placements at the UIL Cross Country State Championships meet on Saturday, November 12, 2016.
The state championship meet was held at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, Texas.
Crandall High School qualified two runners: Dylan Thomas and Kylie Purifoy, both seniors. Purifoy took 2nd place in the girls competition with a time of 11:31.77 — just three seconds shy of the first place finisher. Thomas placed 33rd with a time of 16:47.84.
Kaufman High School qualified a boys and girls team which included: seniors Andrea Gandara, Vivian Glick, Kendall Pearson, Alicia Robledo, Jasmin Venegas, and Tyler Kotwitz; juniors Leslie Gonzalez, Jesus Leija, Noah McBride, and Patrick Mitchell; sophomores Amanda Rodriguez, Spencer Keith, and Carlos Sanchez; and freshman Christian Rivera.
The Kaufman High School girls team took 2nd place in the team competition with a team score of 135 and time of 1:02:05.59. Venegas finished 8th in the girls competition with 11:56.60, Gandara finished 15th with 12:11.66, Glick finished 28th with 12:29.48, Robledo finished 33 with 12:32.14, Pearson finished 51st with 12:55.71, Rodriguez finished 60th with 13:01.53, and Gonzalez finished 86th with 13:29.81.
The Kaufman High School boys team finished 5th in the team competition with a team score of 158 and total time of 1:24:35.55. Rivera finished 6th in the boys competition with a time of 16:14.16, Keith finished 22nd with 16:48.81, Leija finished 28th with 16:55.05, Kotwitz finished 38th with 17:04.81, and McBride finished 64th with 17:30.29.
