FORNEY, Texas — The North Forney High School Falcons began their season with a no-hitter win over Taylor High School which also signified the team’s first win under the direction of new Head Coach Zach Geer.
The non-district matchup against Alief Independent School District’s Taylor High School was played on March 5, 2015, as the North Forney High School Falcons traveled to play in a Houston, Texas, area tournament — ultimately defeating Taylor 9-0.
"Nobody expects to go out and throw a no hitter,” Geer told inForney.com. “We just tell our pitchers to go out and give our team a chance to win the baseball game.”
Geer took over the reins as head coach this year after his father, Rick Geer, accepted an administrative position with Forney Independent School District. Geer served as the assistant head coach last season.
Pitching the no-hitter was Garret Morris and Brent Taylor who threw for four and three innings, respectively.
"Both guys went out and executed pitches well. They gave our defense a chance to make plays behind them,” said Geer.
"It's a great way to start the season. Now we just have to build off of this momentum and continue to improve through the rest of the season,” he said.
