Falcons mount 2nd half skirmish against Poteet in 47-21 loss

MESQUITE, Texas — The North Forney High School Falcons (1-5, 2-7) gave top-ranked Mesquite Poteet Pirates (6-0, 7-2) a run for their money in the second half of their Thursday night matchup but it wasn’t enough to overcome their first half shortfallings in an eventual 47-21 loss at Mesquite’s Memorial Stadium.

MESQUITE, Texas — The North Forney High School Falcons (1-5, 2-7) gave top-ranked Mesquite Poteet Pirates (6-0, 7-2) a run for their money in the second half of their Thursday night matchup but it wasn’t enough to overcome their first half shortfallings in an eventual 47-21 loss at Mesquite’s Memorial Stadium.

The Pirates tacked on 26 uncontested points in the first half of the game off the arm of Kaleb Fletcher who would go on to pass for 302 yards and five touchdowns on 24 attempts and 18 completions. Angel Sevier also sank a 35-yard field goal to start the Pirates offense.

North Forney was first to score coming out of the locker rooms in the second half on a 25-yard Colby Suits pass to Jordan Carroll. The Pirates contested with two touchdowns of their own but the Falcons answered in the fourth quarter with back-to-back touchdowns on a Willie Thomas 5-yard run and a Heath King 16-yard blocked punt return for a touchdown.

The Pirates would score again on a Dee Johnson 56-yard fumble return to finish the game off with a 47-21 win having gone 21-21 against the Falcons in the third and fourth quarters.

Poteet racked up 412 total offensive yards to North Forney’s 199 and forced nine punts and four fumbles, one for a loss. Suits threw for 88 yards and a touchdown with sophomore Thomas leading the rushing yards with 72 on 16 carries and a touchdown. Khari Dickinson accounted for 64 total yards with 42 receiving and 22 rushing.

North Forney will face-off against cross-town rival Forney High School in the Unity Bowl next Friday, November 6, 2015, for their final District 12-5A matchup of the season.
