FORNEY, Texas — In their district openers, Terrell, also hosting a homecoming crowd, chalked up a big win over North Forney and Forney handed Royse City an upsetting homecoming loss in tonights football quick hits.

FORNEY, Texas — In their district openers, Terrell, also hosting a homecoming crowd, chalked up a big win over North Forney and Forney handed Royse City an upsetting homecoming loss in tonights football quick hits.

Royse City (0-1, 2-2) was coming off two straight games of 60-plus points against their opponents when they traded blows on their homecoming night against Forney (1-0, 4-0), ultimately losing to Forney 46-42. The teams went into halftime tied at 21 with Forney outscoring Royse City in the 4th quarter 19-7. Forney’s Luke Skipper threw for 176 yards on 33 attempts and two touchdowns and rushed for another 216 yards on 23 carries and two touchdowns. Stay tuned for the Gonzo Report for a full-game recap.

Also in their homecoming matchup, the Terrell Tigers (1-0, 3-1) defeated the North Forney Falcons (0-1, 1-3) 46-7. Terrells’ Dawonya Tucker rushed for 194 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns with Elijah McQueen scoring another two on the ground with 70 yards on seven carries and Justin Sara scoring on two receptions.

Crandall was looking for back-to-back come-from-behind win over Princeton with 20 of their 39 points scored in the 4th quarter alone but came up shorthanded, losing to Princeton 49-39. Princeton led at half 36-12 with the Pirates outscoring Princeton 27-14 in the second half. Crandall came within three points of the lead with three minutes remaining but Princeton drilled in another touchdown late in the 4th to seal their victory.

Kaufman (3-1) struggled to regain traction after scoring the first touchdown of the game against Kennedale (4-0) who would go on to contest the touchdown with three of their own and a field goal —taking a 24-7 lead mid-way through the 2nd quarter. The teams went into halftime with Kennedale leading 36-21 and an eventual 43-35 victory over Kaufman.

District 12-5A

In district play, Mesquite Poteet (1-0, 2-2) defeated Rockwall-Heath (0-1, 2-2) 14-3 at Mesquite’s E.H. Handy Stadium.

Last night, West Mesquite (1-0, 3-1) narrowly defeated South Garland (0-1, 0-4) 21-13. South Garland went into halftime leading West Mesquite 13-7.
