FORNEY, Texas – The North Forney High School Falcons lost 20 seniors to graduation last year – six starters on offense and seven on defense.

β€œIt hurts us definitely as a team and those positions will be hard to replace,” stated North Forney Athletic Director and Football Head Coach Lance Gary. One thing is for sure though – fourth-year varsity player and starting quarterback Hunter Herndon.

β€œ[Hunter] is one of our key components to our success,” Gary said. β€œHe has really matured in being a strong leader on this team ... He has encouraged his teammates to follow his lead."

Herndon, 6'4” and 236 pounds, said, β€œIt's never easy, but the more games I play, I get a little more relaxed.” Last season, Herndon recorded over 1,100 yards and 11 touchdowns. His goal for this season is to break 2,000 all-purpose yards and 15 individual touchdowns.

"One of his stronger characteristics is being able to carry the ball," said Gary. "His feet are definitely his strongest skill."

Herndon has already verbally committed to the University of Rice in Houston, Texas, and has received offers from the University of New Mexico, University of North Texas, and the University of Oklahoma.

On college, Herndon says, "I'm pretty set with my decision. The education can't be matched in today's world. I don't regret committing too early because I know if I'm committed it's a safe haven and that can't be taken away unless I do something wrong."

Some of Herndon's goals include beating Forney High School, making the playoffs, and a possible run at the state championship. β€œI want to start a winning tradition and leave my mark on this town.”

β€œBeing disciplined, playing with a lot of heart, and playing for each other,” is how Herndon says they will achieve those goals. β€œWe are more than a brotherhood. At the end of the day, we are family and nothing can tear us apart.”
