Football: North Forney falls to Frisco High School in non-district season opener

FRISCO, Texas – The North Forney High School Falcons (0-1), District 12-5A, fell to the District 9-5A Frisco High School Fighting Raccoons (1-0) in their non-district season opener, 35-17.

Scoring began late in the first quarter with a 36-yard touchdown pass to Rohan Vasa from the arm of Frisco's Dayton Bush with 2:29 remaining in the quarter. North Forney answered in three plays with quarterback Hunter Herndon rushing in a 66-yard touchdown run.

Herndon went on to rush for 173 yards on 27 attempts compared to only 16 attempts at passing, completing 7 for 35 yards. Herndon also lead the rushing yardage for the Falcons. Jermaine Garner completed 96 rushing yards on 11 attempts.

Frisco scored another touchdown in the second quarter that went uncontested. North Forney went into halftime down 14-7 with Frisco in the lead.

With 4:07 left in the third quarter, Falcon's kicker Hunter McClain was positioned to kick a 19-yard field goal, bringing the score within 4 points – Frisco 14-10.

On the kickoff, Frisco's Austin Shaw scored on a 100-yard kickoff return. With a failed possession and a 13-yard punt for the Falcons, the Raccoons lined up on North Forney's 40-yard line for their next possession. Frisco capitalized and scored on five plays with a Paul Terry 4-yard rushing touchdown.

The third quarter ended with Frisco leading North Forney 28-10.

Late in the fourth quarter, Derrick Mosley returned a kickoff, after another Frisco touchdown, 23 yards to the North Forney 30-yard line. Six plays later, Jermaine Garner scored a 20-yard rushing touchdown with 2:23 remaining in the fourth quarter.

After several failed possessions, the game ended with a final score in favor of Frisco, 35-17.

North Forney completed 307 total yards and won the penalty game, giving up 30 yards on 4 penalties compared to Frisco's 14 penalties with 85 yards.
