FORNEY, Texas — The Forney High School Jackrabbits upset 6A-opponent Richardson Berkner on Friday night in their first non-district matchup of the season.

FORNEY, Texas — The Forney High School Jackrabbits upset 6A-opponent Richardson Berkner on Friday night in their first non-district matchup of the season.

District 15-5A Forney traveled to Richardson for the matchup and amassed approximately 464 total yards, compared to 288, in their route to a 42-10 win over the District 9-6A opponent.

Forney’s Devon Rideaux dominated the offense in passing and rushing with 255 total yards, two passing touchdowns, and one rushing touchdown.

Richardson Berkner was first on the board with a field goal and would eventually post the final touchdown with Forney filling the gap the remainder of the game scoring at least once in every quarter.

Richardson’s Nick McLemore completed a 33-yard field goal on their second possession of the night. Devon Rideaux quickly answered with a 74-yard rushing touchdown.

Devon Rideaux connected with Brock Rooney on a 19-yard pass for a Jackrabbit touchdown with 10:25 in the second quarter.

In the third quarter, Aaron Rideaux and Jaylon Hutchings each snagged 3-yard rushing touchdowns at 10:41 and 6:46, respectively, in the third quarter. Devon Rideauz also connected with Rooney for his second touchdown of the night in the third with 1:32 remaining in the quarter.

Sean Stephens capped on Forney’s scoring late in the fourth quarter with a 4-yard rushing touchdown and, with Richardson’s Jason Counts scoring on a 5-yard rush with 3:39 remaining, sealed Forney’s victory.

Devon Rideaux completed 7 passes on 11 attempts for 152 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also rushed for 103 yards on 10 attempts and a touchdown.

Aaron Rideaux snagged 87 rushing yards on 11 carries and a touchdown as well as 2 receptions for 32 yards, Stephens accumulated 54 yards on 5 carries and a touchdown, Rooney caught 2 for 48 yards, and Brendan Vaughn caught a 46-yard pass and also recovered a Berkner fumble.

Forney will next play Lindale on Friday, September 2, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. at City Bank Stadium. Lindale (1-0) defeated Kaufman (0-1), 42-39, on Friday night with a game-winning touchdown with 39 seconds remaining in the game.
