Forney High School baseball moves to bi-district playoffs after sealing district championship

FORNEY, Texas β€” The Forney High School baseball team will move to the bi-district round of playoffs on Friday night after sealing an outright District Championship title.

FORNEY, Texas β€” The Forney High School baseball team will move to the bi-district round of playoffs on Friday night after sealing an outright District Championship title.

The team went 23-3-1 on the season and are currently on a 10-game winning streak as they prepare for their bi-district home-game matchup against Woodrow Wilson on Friday, May 6, 2016, at 7:30 p.m.

The Jackrabbits capped their season with a 2-1 victory over cross-town rival North Forney High School on senior night and a 24-2 win over West Mesquite. Notably, the Jackrabbits handed powerhouse Rockwall-Heath their only two district losses on the season, one in extra innings at home, according to team announcer Tony Gonzalez.

The team is led by a pair of sophomore pitchers, both Texas A&M commits standing at 6-foot-4, lefthander Jonathan Childress and righthander Mason Englert with senior Dawson Seabourne at relief, closure, when needed.

Both Childress and Englert have thrown sub-1 ERAs. Englert leads the area with 105 strikeouts with Childress garnering another 67 himself.

β€œA great 1-2 combination that will be strong in any three-game series,” stated Gonzalez.

β€œThe team has a very solid defense behind these pitchers,” stated Gonzalez. β€œLeft fielder Wyatt Bishop, amongst others, has come up big late in the year.”

Offensively, seniors Logan Montoya and Jon Urso have stolen 18 bases each on the season.

β€œThe team, overall, is aggressive on the base paths and they run the bases well,” stated Gonzalez.
