Forney High School’s Brendan Vaughn verbally commits to Oklahoma State University

FORNEY, Texas — Forney High School junior Brendan Vaughn recently made a verbal commitment to Oklahoma State University.

FORNEY, Texas — Forney High School junior Brendan Vaughn recently made a verbal commitment to Oklahoma State University.

“Well, I’m blessed to say that I have decided to end the recruiting process and commit to Oklahoma State University,” Vaughn stated on Twitter. “Thanks to all my parents, friends, and coaches for all their support. Go Pokes!!!”

16-year-old Vaughn, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound junior, played safety and outside linebacker for the Forney High School Jackrabbits — totaling 101 tackles, seven sacks, three fumble recoveries, four pass breakups, and two blocked field goals which earned him a second-team All-District 12-5A designation.

Vaughn, only in his second year of football, virtually flew under the radar, something his father, Sidney Vaughn, said would only last for so long before someone noticed his ability, size, and potential.

OSU Coach Dan Hammerschmidt saw that in Vaughn in a brief Forney High School campus visit and invited him to Junior Day at Oklahoma State University.

According to Vaughn, he received an offer shortly after his visit to which he accepted and will likely fill the position of outside linebacker for the Cowboys.

Vaughn says he likes the OSU campus as well as the college atmosphere in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

“I was very impressed with their facilities and coaching staff,” said Vaughn.

“We are so proud of what Brendan has accomplished as an athlete and a student,” Sidney told inForney.com. “As parents, we prayed for a free education. So for him to also be able to play for a Division I football program that is national championship caliber is icing on the cake! GO POKES!”

In the off-season, Vaughn is competing on the Forney High School track team.
