Forney Jackrabbit offense turns big plays into a big win

The Forney Jackrabbit offense was true to its namesake and got moving almost from the opening gun of their football game against Creekview. Big plays were the name of the game for both sides and Forney prevailed 44-21 over the Creekview Mustangs at Standridge Stadium in Carrollton.

The Forney Jackrabbit offense was true to its namesake and got moving almost from the opening gun of their football game against Creekview. Big plays were the name of the game for both sides and Forney prevailed 44-21 over the Creekview Mustangs at Standridge Stadium in Carrollton.

Clayton Chadwick got things started on the first possession for Forney with a 60 yard run to get the Black and Gold in scoring position. Darris Jenkins finished the quick drive with a nice 9 yard run to put the first 6 points on the board.

The Mustangs countered with a “throwback” formation otherwise known as the “I” formation. Because the spread offense is the current fad in high school football, the “I” formation is a rare sight on Friday nights. The Mustangs were very effective early while featuring a strong running game. Their initial drive ended with a fumble by QB David Blough at the Jackrabbit 37 yard line.

Forney couldn’t muster up another big drive so they punted the ball back to the Mustangs after gaining only one first down. Creekview then took to the air and completed a pass to Raquan Dobbs for 55 yards. Dobbs made a beautiful over the shoulder catch at a full run on a exceptionally thrown ball by Blough. Blough capped the drive off with a 21 yard TD pass that tied the score at 7 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was all Jackrabbits as they put an impressive 20 points on the scoreboard over the next twelve minutes. Clay Collins started the scoring with a 28 yard field goal. Clayton Chadwick then brought out the big play for the second time and scored on an 83 yard run after the Jackrabbit D forced a three and out by the Mustangs. Creekview managed to answer with their own touchdown to close the gap to 17-14. Forney's coach once again called upon Chadwick as they started their next possession. This time it was a Chadwick reception of 74 yards that put another Jackrabbit touchdown on the board. Clay Collins bookended the quarter with another field goal to make it 27-14 at halftime.

On only three plays, Clayton Chadwick amassed 214 yards of total offense and 12 points. In the professional world they call that a career night. In high school football, it is what makes incredible lifelong memories. Chadwick is a hardworking and humble young man and it gave the fans joy to see him have such an amazing night.

The first half didn’t belong only to the offense as the Jackrabbit D certainly had their moments. A couple of three and outs, a Cody Penny interception, and the aforementioned fumble recovery were the defensive highlights for the first half.

The Jackrabbits were not done and managed to put points on the board in each quarter, reminiscent of the Royse City game earlier in the year. Darris Jenkins had a 3 yard touchdown run, Clay Collins connected on his third field goal of the game (32 yards) followed by Jenkins’ third touchdown of the night to round out the Jackrabbit scoring. Creekview managed one score late in the fourth quarter to make the final 44-21.

The Jackrabbits will take the momentum into a two game home stand starting with Homecoming against Terrell this week. That is followed by the game everyone has had circled for months, when the Falcons fly across Highway 80 and get the first battle for Forney bragging rights started on October 26.
