FORNEY, Texas — The Forney High School Jackrabbits laid claim to a Bi-District Championship title on Thursday night with a 77-44 win over Bryan Adams at Allen’s Eagle Stadium.
It’s been a long time since the Forney Jackrabbits could lay claim to a playoff win. Since moving up from the 3A division, Forney had only been to the playoffs 3 times with last time in 2012 against Prosper, also at Eagle Stadium. Forney lost that game but will have a chance at retribution with Propser pulls off a win against Frisco Lone Star on Friday night.
Tonight’s game was dominated by the Jackrabbit offense and this week’s offensive performer of the night was easily senior running back Michael Prox.
In the first half, Prox scored seven touchdowns and amassed a combined 298 yards of total offense. You read that right. That was in the first half of play. Prox scored on runs of one, 30, 38, 24, 24, and catches of 66 and 21 yards. Prox's efforts helped the Jackrabbits put up an outstanding 42 points in the second quarter alone.
That’s a complete game worth of stats for some teams, let alone one individual. Senior quarterback Luke Skipper did manage to start the scoring in the game with a nine-yard run before seeing Prox take over.
Going into halftime, the Jackrabbits had a very comfortable 56-16 lead over the Cougars. The second half proved to be valuable experience and playing time for younger players on the Forney side of things. The younger squad managed to put up 21 of their own points in the second half, helping Forney to its biggest scoring night of the season. Devon Rideaux scored on a 57-yard run, Brock Rooney scored on an eight-yard pass from Rideaux and Aaron Rideaux capped things off with a nine-yard run.
The Forney defense held the Cougars to two touchdown in the first half, the first one with just eight seconds to go in the first quarter. The Cougars came into the matchup with the 5th best passing offense in division 5A in the Dallas area. The passing game was more than held in check in the first half, as the Forney secondary locked down leading receiver Nathan Stewart while the front seven applied consistent pressure to the Cougar quarterback. The combo proved too much for Bryan Adams, as the team was clearly beat by the time they headed to the locker room for halftime.
On the night, Forney accumulated 655 yards of total offense with 232 off the arm of Skipper, 392 rushing yards, and 32 first downs.
The Jackrabbits will head to the area-round playoffs against Frisco Lone Star on Friday, November 20, 2015, at 7:30 p.m. at Clark Stadium in Plano, Texas.
