FORNEY, Texas — Despite 345 total yards by Forney High School (5-4, 2-4) on Friday night against District 12-5A foe West Mesquite High School (7-2, 4-2), Forney was unable to muster a win, losing their hopes at a playoff run with a 54-13 defeat.
FORNEY, Texas — Despite 345 total yards by Forney High School (5-4, 2-4) on Friday night against District 12-5A foe West Mesquite High School (7-2, 4-2), Forney was unable to muster a win, losing their hopes at a playoff run with a 54-13 defeat.
On the other side of the ball, the West Mesquite Wranglers completed 524 total yards and scored 41 unanswered points in the first and second quarters before Forney was able to cross the goal line with just over a minute remaining in the first half on a Luke Skipper 15-yard pass to Shakur Marrow.
Skipper completed 14 of 31 attempts in the pocket for 166 yards, a touchdown pass, and a 62-yard quarterback keeper for a touchdown in the third quarter. The two touchdowns are all Forney would see on the night.
West Mesquite’s quarterback Chason Virgil threw for 309 yards and 5 touchdowns and rushed for 28 yards and another touchdown. Akilian Butler completed 182 yards on 7 reception, 3 of which were touchdowns.
Forney High School will play cross-town rival North Forney High School next week for the Unity Bowl at City Bank Stadium in Forney, Texas.
