FORNEY, Texas — The Dallas Morning News named Forney High School’s Chazz Slatinsky the Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Unity Bowl against cross-town rival North Forney High School on November 7, 2014.
Slatinsky completed an impressive 21 tackles, two pass breakups, blocked a field goal, recovered an onside squib kick, forced a fumble, returned a 43-yard punt for a touchdown, and also rushed for three other touchdowns in the Jackrabbits 48-0 victory over North Forney.
The game, Slatinsky’s last high school football game, was dedicated to his best friend Matthew Ross DeFilippo who died in a tragic 2012 accident, he told the DMN.
In an interview with inForney.com earlier this year, Slatinsky said, “When I mess up, miss a tackle, or miss an opportunity, I always remember Matthew always had a smile and I can't let anything get me down.” Slatinsky said he dedicated his time on and off the field to DeFilippo.
