A great group of Forney youngsters won the Quickfoot Soccer Tournament in Coppell on May 19, 2012. The Forney F.C. Galacticos 6-U Boys team represented the Forney Soccer Association extremely well throughout their season, and they topped it off with an impressive run of 3 wins and 1 tie in the tournament, including a 3-1 victory over the Coppell team.
This young team is coached by Arnulfo Arias and James Shavers. Coach Shavers said, “From our first practice to our championship win at Quickfoot, the motto has always been we go hard.” The team was put together in 2010-2011 and being so young, the boys had basically no soccer experience. This season however, they won all 8 of their soccer games, because the dynamic team of players - Jeremiah Arias, Seth Shavers, Ethan Valdez, Jaime Flores, and Asher Wall, came together as a force of five strong.
Jeremiah and Seth scored most of the goals this season, but victories were upheld by the scoring and stellar defense of Asher and Jaime as well as the young man protecting the goal, Ethan. 6-U is a 4 on 4 soccer league and the team played their games every Saturday morning at Forney Community Park. Though the coaches say they implemented certain soccer skills that some may have thought too hard for the boys, the young men rose to meet every challenge head on. Anyone who has ever met a six-year-old boy knows that keeping their attention and instilling discipline is no easy task. The coaches managed to do it with F.C. Galacticos, but they give all the credit to the players.
The practices and games were not just about soccer for F.C. Galacticos, the coaches used those times to remind the kids about respecting their parents, listening to their teachers, and even the importance of taking care of their toys. The players took those lessons and applied them on and off the field. What they got from playing FSA soccer are lessons they can apply throughout their lives.
Congratulations to the F.C. Galacticos 6-U Boys team on their terrific season and on winning the Quickfoot Tournament.
