Jackrabbit season comes to an end in the area-round playoffs

FORNEY, Texas — They say all good things must come to an end. Such was the Forney Jackrabbit 2015 Football Season.

FORNEY, Texas — They say all good things must come to an end. Such was the Forney Jackrabbit 2015 Football Season.

It was a good run for the Jackrabbits, as they ended a playoff appearance drought, got their first ever playoff win above the 3A level, and advanced to the Area Round of the Texas High School Football Playoffs.

Friday night in Plano, at John Clark Stadium, they simply faced a better, stronger, faster team in Frisco Lone Star. The final result was a 55-13 loss that ends the Jackrabbit season.

As tough as it is to type, this game was over fairly quickly. Lone Star has had an explosive offense all season, and it reared it’s head early and often on Friday. Running back Darrin Smith opened the scoring for Lone Star with three touchdown runs of two, seven and 43 yards. Chris Miller added a four-yard touchdown run at the end of the first quarter to give Lone Star a 27-0 lead. This would be more than enough to get the win, as the Lone Star defense showed they are not to be overlooked.

Forney’s offense only managed 56 yards in the first half, far below their season average. As a result, the Jackrabbit defense was on the field for too many plays and surrendered 41 points by the time the teams headed to the locker room for halftime.

While the Jackrabbits managed to play the second half much closer, a 14-13 advantage for Lone Star, they never really managed to threaten the Rangers lead. The Rangers simply just had too much for Forney to handle. The Rangers piled up 584 yards of total offense. Forney managed a better second half, but still only ended up with 224 yard of offense, far below their season average.

The biggest Forney highlight of the night was the final play of the game. Senior quarterback Luke Skipper did what he does best and went out with a bang on a scrambling 22-yard touchdown run. It was the kind of run Skipper has thrilled Forney fans with for the last three years. While it was too little, too late, it was a memory befitting the leader of this team.

Along with all other teams in the state, the Jackrabbits now find themselves looking forward to the early Spring when the UIL announces their bi-annual district realignment. It’s an unpredictable exercise, but one waited for anxiously all around this great state. inForney.com will have the realignment results as soon as it is announced.
