FORNEY, Texas β Last week, it was a game of ups and downs. This week, it was about consistency. The Jackrabbits scored at least one touchdown in every quarter, and the defense got the shutout that eluded them last week. FORNEY, Texas β Last week, it was a game of ups and downs. This week, it was about consistency. The Jackrabbits scored at least one touchdown in every quarter, and the defense got the shutout that eluded them last week. In the end, the Jackrabbits prevailed with a 41-0 win against the Dallas Samuell Spartans at Pleasant Grove Stadium.
The defense almost lost the shutout at the beginning of the second quarter, with Samuell inside the five yard line. In a bizarre series, Samuell then had a false start, took a timeout, tried to use an illegal substitute, eventually got tackled for a loss, and then missed the field goal attempt. It was the closest the defense would come to letting the Spartans score all night. In a line you wonβt see often, the defense won the turnover battle again by forcing three interceptions, yet not recovering any fumbles. The Jackrabbit defense held the Spartans to under 100 total yards.
The offense was paced by Junior QB Luke Skipper and Senior TB AJ Atnip. With 200 yards rushing between the two, and an additional 120 yards through the air for Skipper, the Jackrabbit offense amassed 414 yards on the night. AJ scored twice and Luke accounted for three touchdowns. Senior QB Cory Marr finished the scoring with a TD of his own late in the game. After the aforementioned stop by the defense at the beginning of the second quarter, the Jackrabbit offense took the ball down the field and scored on a long drive. This was the turning point of the game and energized the entire team to the 41-0 shutout victory.
The Jackrabbits need to shore up the penalties. Six Samuell first downs were as a result of penalties on Forney. On the night, Forney committed 11 penalties for 120 yards. Included in those 11 were at least 4 personal fouls. The Jackrabbits next face Fort Worth Eastern Hills on Thursday night, in Fort Worth.
