This year’s Labor Day Invitational Volleyball Tournament hosted by Forney High School was a huge success. Formally known as the Forney Varsity Volleyball Tournament, officials from both schools hope to bring this tournament back to Forney, Texas, every year on Labor Day weekend.
This year’s Labor Day Invitational Volleyball Tournament hosted by Forney High School was a huge success. Formally known as the Forney Varsity Volleyball Tournament, officials from both schools hope to bring this tournament back to Forney, Texas, every year on Labor Day weekend.
The tournament started on Thursday, August 30, 2012, with pool play and continued on Saturday, September 1, 2012, with bracket play. Forney High School and the Lady Jackrabbits volleyball team hosted 23 area high schools including the North Forney Lady Falcons volleyball team. Officials would like to expand next year’s tournament to be played at both high schools which would allow them to invite more schools to participate.
The North Forney Lady Falcons began Thursday’s pool play in the P.E. Gym at 9:30 a.m. against Sulpher Springs, winning 26-24 and 27-25. The Lady Falcons found their niche and started out strong against their next opponent, Lone Oak. The North Forney Lady Falcons tactfully placed the ball in their opponents weak spots and beat Lone Oak 25-17 and 25-15.
North Forney’s last game on Thursday was against Bowie High School from Arlington, Texas. Both teams made it to this game undefeated so far in pool play, adding additional pressure on the Lady Falcons. Bowie showed their strength in blocking and court coverage and beat the Lady Falcons in both games, 17-25 and 12-25.
Forney started pool play on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. playing against Wills Point. They showed great team work and excellent communication. Forney showed their strength in their ability to control their passes and follow through on every play. Both teams put up a fight but Wills Point came out on top winning 21-25 and 23-25.
The Lady Jackrabbits swept their next two opponents, Dallas Carter and Samuell. Winning 25-4 and 26-6 against Dallas Carter and winning 25-6 and 25-7 against Samuell.
Both Forney and North Forney started off Saturday strong by beating their first opponents. Forney had a very exciting game against Grandview that went to three games. The Lady Jackrabbits lost the first game 24-26 but then won the next two games 25-10 and 25-19. The Forney Lady Jackrabbits then moved onto the Semi-Finals against Timber Creek, winning the first game 25-21 but then losing the next two games 17-25 and 19-25.
The North Forney Lady Falcons beat their first opponent, Molina, on Saturday in two games, 25-17 and 25-20. They lost their next game against Mesquite Horn in two games, losing 25-14 and 25-13.
Mesquite Horn later went on to defeat Timber Creek in two straight games to win the Championship game.
