FORNEY, Texas — Forney Independent School District (ISD) students gained an athletic “competitive edge” while attending the Summer Conditioning Camp hosted at Forney High School and North Forney High School, according to the district’s website.

Beginning the second week of the summer, more than 400 middle-school- and high-school-aged students attended the camps which focused on weight training, agility, conditioning, and cardio.

140 students enrolled in North Forney High School’s program which was headed by Assistant Football Head Coach Richard Leonard, who also serves as offensive coordinator, line coach, and powerlifting coach.

For Forney High School, 277 students enrolled in the program led by Defensive Coordinator Coach Kyle Abshire, who also serves as line coach and assistant powerlifting coach.

“Though the workouts were tough, the athletes kept coming day after day and saw improvements in their endurance over the course of the six weeks,” stated Assistant Softball Coach Regina DeDominicis on the district’s website. “They knew they needed to be in shape to compete not only against opponents, but for playing positions on their own team.”

“The more you put into something, the more you have a stake in it, the harder it is to surrender when things are tough,” stated Leonard.

In approximately two weeks, two-a-day practices begin for volleyball and football.
