FORNEY, Texas — North Forney High School claimed the championship at the 2015 Forney Independent School District Winter Classic basketball tournament over the weekend in a 76-55 thriller over North Mesquite High School.
“The Falcons took control of the game early with a 19-6 edge in the first quarter and never looked back,” stated Head Coach Andrew Curtis on the district’s website.
With the win, the Falcons improved to 11-2 on the season — having played 10 games in 12 days in December and winning both the Forney ISD Winter Classic and the Kennedale Invitational.
Cross-town rival, Forney High School, finished the Forney ISD Winter Classic in 3rd place — its best finish ever in its host tournament. Forney defeated Corsicana 52-50 off two successful free throw attempts by Texas A&M baseball commit Jonathan Childress with 0.3 seconds left on the clock.
The Falcons will next play McKinney North on Tuesday and host Mesquite Horn on Friday. The Jackrabbits will host North Dallas on Tuesday and Friday at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively.
