FORNEY, Texas — The North Forney High School boys basketball team clinched a playoff berth with a 50-42 win over Mesquite’s Poteet High School on Friday night with a special appearance from the Mavs ManiAACs.
FORNEY, Texas — The North Forney High School boys basketball team clinched a playoff berth with a 50-42 win over Mesquite’s Poteet High School on Friday night with a special appearance from the Mavs ManiAACs.
The Falcons (8-3), second place in District 12-5A, were trailing the Pirates (6-5) going into halftime, 13 to 20, scoring only 3 points in the first quarter to Poteet’s 14. North Forney scored 10 in the second quarter with Poteet scoring 6.
The Dallas Maverick’s all-male dance troupe, the Mavs ManiAACs, performed during halftime. North Forney High School sophomore Carson Tarno dawned the North Forney Falcon mascot uniform and performed alongside his dad, JJ Tarno, in one of the routines.
The Falcons took their first lead in the game in the third quarter scoring 20 points to the Pirates 7. The Falcons, behind leading scorer Tylor Hawkins, scored an additional 17 points in the fourth quarter to Poteet’s 15.
Hawkins amassed 20 points on the night. Other point-getters included Jacoby Armstrong (6), JaCorey Jones (6), Ronnie Horner (5), Jordan Wallis (5), Zane McFarland (4), Parrish Price (2), Ryne Ritterbach (1), and Jeremy Tarrant (1).
Scoring for Poteet were Kyler Lopes (10), Jonathan Below (8), Jacob Donahue (7), Jonathan Parker (6), Brent Moffett (5), Andrew Anugwom (4), and Walter Dawn (2).
The Falcons next play cross-town rival Forney High School (3-8) on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at 10 p.m. at Forney High School.
