FORNEY, Texas — The North Forney High School varsity boys’ golf team made school history by qualifying for the UIL Class 5A regional tournament, according to the Forney Independent School District’s website.
The five-member team — consisting of Landon Davis, Heath King, Matt Rettinger, Gabriel Rodriguez and Trenton Marshall — competed in a two-day District 12-5A tournament at Waterview Golf Course in Rowlett, Texas, on Monday and Tuesday of this week.
“After 36 holes, the Falcon’s were one of the top two teams for the first time in school history and qualified for the Regional Tournament,” Coach Jeremy Moore stated on the district’s website.
The team shot a two-day team score of 660 with Davis winning the tournament with the lowest two-day combined score of 147.
The Falcons were just 19 shots behind Rockwall-Heath from capturing the team lead and overtook Mesquite Poteet High School by 32 shots.
The team will move to compete in the regional tournament on Monday and Tuesday, April 11th and 12th at the Rockwall Athletic Club in Rockwall, Texas.
