North Forney holds off 3rd quarter surge to double down on Mount Pleasant, 50-21

FORNEY, Texas — After an approximate two-hour lightning delay, the North Forney Falcons and Mount Pleasant Tigers took the field at City Bank Stadium in Forney on Friday night.

FORNEY, Texas — After an approximate two-hour lightning delay, the North Forney Falcons and Mount Pleasant Tigers took the field at City Bank Stadium in Forney on Friday night.

The Falcons amassed nearly 400 total yards in route to their dominating 50-21 performance against the tigers with quarterback Colby Suits throwing for nearly 200 yards and three touchdowns and rushing for another 34 and another touchdown.

The Falcons, featuring a new “hurry-up” offense, scored early and often with two touchdowns in every quarter except the second.

In the first two minutes of play, the Falcons scored on a Suits pass to Jackson Ennels and, after fumbling a snap on the field goal attempt, Jordan Carroll ran for an additional 2 points to start the scoring off 8-0.

Just over a minute later, the Falcons forced a fumble and Suits connected with Ford for the Falcons second touchdown on the night.

North Forney’s Willie Thomas scrambled for a 1-yard touchdown rush up the middle for another Falcon touchdown with 9 minutes remaining in the quarter. With just under a minute remaining in the half, Mount Pleasant tacked on their first touchdown of the night on Micah Grant pass to K.J. Cannon.

The Falcons went into halftime with a 22-7 lead.

The opponents traded touchdowns in the third quarter with North Forney scoring near the 8 minute mark with Suits connecting with Ford. Just three minutes later, Mount Pleasant’s answered with a Dorian Glinton rushing touchdown.

Jaylon Smith rushed for the Falcons next touchdown which was contested with a kick-off return by Mount Pleasant’s Diondre Williams.

The score was 36-21 in favor of North Forney going into the fourth quarter.

Suits and Calvin Ribera each scored rushing touchdowns to bring the Falcons to a 50-21 victory nearly five hours after the game was scheduled to begin.

North Forney will next play on Thursday, September 1, 2016, at 7 p.m. at City Bank Stadium in Forney, Texas.
