FORNEY, Texas — The North Forney High School Lady Falcons softball team will advance to the Regional Semi-Finals of the District 5A playoffs for the second year in a row to face a familiar foe — Hallsville High School — after defeating fellow District 12-5A opponent Rockwall-Heath High School.
The win also solidified a back-to-back Regional Quarterfinals Championship for the team who is no stranger to the playoffs having fielded a playoff team each year it has had a varsity team.
Last year, North Forney advanced the furthest it had in its young school history — the Regional Semi-Finals — in a winner-take-all match against top state-ranked Hallsville High School. Hallsville edged North Forney 5-1 and advanced to the Quarterfinals, sending the Falcons home.
This year, North Forney and Hallsville will face-off again in the Regional Semi-Finals in a best-of-three series at Lindale High School seeking a “shot at redemption,” stated Softball Assistant Coach Brittany Lee on the district’s website.
North Forney and Hallsville will begin their series on Thursday at Lindale High School at 7 p.m. Game 2 will be played on Friday at 7 p.m. and, if necessary, game 3 will be played on Saturday at 2 p.m.
North Forney defeated Rockwall-Heath in a best-of-three series — losing the first game 3-2 and winning the next two games 3-1 and 12-8.
After falling to an early deficit of 8-2 in game 3, the Falcons went on to score 10 straight runs to win the series. Game 3 was described by Lee as the “most exciting and resilient game the Lady Falcons have played all year.”
