FORNEY, Texas – North Forney High School's Armani Watts made a spectacular first appearance as a true freshman, non-redshirt starter for the Aggies in Texas A&M University's season opener against the South Carolina Gamecocks on Thursday night in Columbia, South Carolina, at Williams-Brice Stadium.
The 21st-ranked Texas A&M Aggies toppled the 9th-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks, 52-28. 18-year-old Watts snagged an interception in the third quarter in his college football debut. Watts also completed two hard-hitting tackles, one which broke up a would-be touchdown pass.
Last week, the Aggies released their depth chart which revealed Watts would start over senior Floyd Raven Sr. at free safety.
The Aggies return home for their next matchup against the Lamar University Cardinals in College Station, Texas, for a 6:30 p.m. game at Kyle Field.
