Royse City amasses 400 yards for first win of season against North Forney

ROYSE CITY, Texas — Royse City High School (1-4, 1-1) amassed 400 total yards en route to a 34-14 victory over North Forney High School (1-4, 0-2) on Friday night, October 3, 2014.

The game was tight going into halftime. Royse City scored two touchdowns in the first quarter off the arm of Ryan Stone with a 28-yard pass to Chance Shelby and a 23-yard pass to DeVante Alexander.

North Forney scored two touchdowns of their own in the second quarter off two big plays — a 67-yard pass from Hunter Herndon to Darius Palmer and a 93-yard Derrick Mosley kick-off return. Royse City also completed a field goal to give them the extra three going into halftime.

Royse City’s defense stopped North Forney from scoring in the second half of the game and took it away with two more touchdowns and a field goal— a 54-yard pass from Courtland Vance to Chance Shelby in the third, a 32-yard Preston Browning field goal, and a 9-yard Chris Sims rush. The Bulldogs also successfully recovered an onside kick but failed to jeopardize on the field position.

North Forney’s quarterback Hunter Herndon led the offense, passing for 82 yards and rushing for 80 on 16 carries. Darius Palmer averaged 8.4 yards a carry with 9 carries for 76 yards. Palmer also caught 3 for 68 yards and a touchdown.

North Forney will travel away again for their next matchup against District 12-5A competitor Rockwall-Heath High School on Friday, October 10, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.
