FORNEY, Texas β The North Forney High School softball team (13-1, 28-4-2) run-ruled Molina (12-2, 20-10) for the second time in their best-of-three series in the UIL Class 4A Area-Round Playoffs to become the Area-Round Champions.
FORNEY, Texas β The North Forney High School softball team (13-1, 28-4-2) run-ruled Molina (12-2, 20-10) for the second time in their best-of-three series in the UIL Class 4A Area-Round Playoffs to become the Area-Round Champions.
North Forney's momentum started early, scoring 8 runs in the 1st inning and 4 in the 2nd. North Forney's Christi Flanigan held the the Molina Jaguars to 2 hits and struck out 5 from the mound. Flanigan also hit a double and an RBI, and also set up a double play.
The Falcons will advance to the UIL Class 4A Regional Quarterfinals against District 9-4A Champions Frisco Centennial (11-3, 26-4-2) next week. Centennial ousted Forney High School in the Bi-District round of playoffs in two games, 13-0 and 13-3. North Forney and Centennial previously faced each other in non-district at the Allen Tournament and tied 5-5.
In preparation for Frisco Centennial, North Forney Softball Head Coach Andrew Delozier told inForney.com, βWe're gonna work our tails off. Its not gonna be the same kind of team that we just faced.β
Delozier said the girls have a lot riding on this game, not only for this season, but also for last season. βThey knocked us out of the playoffs last year,β said Delozier. βSo we've got a little bit of an incentive when it comes Monday to show up for practice. We'll be working hard.β
The Falcons went on to score 1 run in the 3rd inning and 2 in the 4th inning before Flanigan struck out all three batters and run-ruled the game, 15-0. Taylor Seiber, Blake Bennett, Marilyn Rizzato, and Flanigan each hit doubles. Hitting RBI's for the Falcons were Lainey Smith (2), Peyton Hedrick, Flanigan, Bennett (2), Seiber (3), Maddi Carney (3), Rizzato (2), and Enriquez. Seiber also hit a home run for the Falcons.
North Forney will travel to Allen High School on Friday, May 9, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. for their regional quarterfinals against Frisco Centennial in a one-game playoff matchup. The address for Allen High School is 300 Rivercrest Blvd, Allen, Texas, 75002. "We need everyone to come out support these girls and cheer them on to victory," said Delozier. "It will be an electric atmosphere and a fun game to watch."
