The Unity Bowl: Forney's friendly football rivalry to kick off with parade and fundraising

The Forney Jackrabbits football team will take on the North Forney Falcons on Friday, October 26, 2012 at City Bank Stadium in what is officially been dubbed the “Unity Bowl.” In February, UIL announced the North Forney Falcons would be making the switch to 4A and aligning these two teams in the same division and conference, making this the first time they will play each other. A parade will be held in downtown Forney on October 20th to celebrate the friendly rivalry and the impending football game.

Mayor Darren Rozell is already set for football season and he holds season tickets for both the Forney Jackrabbits and the North Forney Falcons. He said this about the October game between the two Forney teams, “This history and the record keeping starts here. It's the first time they meet in district play. The entire community needs to come out and support their school.”

The parade will start at 10 a.m. at Warren Middle School, it will continue down Bois D'Arc, then onto Main Street, ending near Main and Center. They are expecting up to 125 float and parade entries and will be charging $10 for each entry. All the money raised from the parade entries will be donated to the Forney Area United Way. (See the link to the entry form below).

During the week after the parade and before the football game, there will be school and community events and contests to encourage healthy competition and a positive rivalry between the schools. Each high school will pick a charity of their choice and will raise as much money as they can. A fundraising winner will be declared as well.

As for the winning team of the big Unity Bowl, they will be presented with a the Mayor's Cup trophy. The trophy gives them bragging rights for the year and that same trophy will be up for grabs each year that the teams meet on the football field. This is the start of a great tradition in Forney, so make plans to be at the parade, join in on the contests, and come see the game. inForney.com will be there to report on all of the great events for the big football week in October!
