Forrest Garza from North Forney High School signed a letter of intent to play football at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma. Garza is the first person in his family to receive a football scholarship and he plans to obtain a Business Degree. David Garza, Forrest's father, said, βIn Forrest's situation, this has truly been an inspiration and life's lesson on never giving up on your dreams.β
Garza was a force to be reckoned with on the Falcon's defense and received Dave Campbell's 2011 Sophomore Player to Watch and Dave Campbell's 2012 Defensive Stat Leader recognitions. Garza was also Dallas Morning News' Defensive Honorable Mention for player of the week after a clutch interception and 33 yard return for a touchdown against Mabank in the 2011 football season to clinch the 13-3A Region II District championship. Garza's senior year was cut short due to an injury in the season opener again Frisco but he continued to be a team leader on the sideline and in the locker room.
North Forney High School football Head Coach and Athletic Director Lance Gary said Garza is a "high character young man that fought through a season ending injury. He provided the team with leadership and motivation even when he was unable to play and he has a lot of potential to be a great college football player."
