West Mesquite held North Forney to just 1 total yard in their District 12-5A matchup while amassing 459 total yards of their own. West Mesquite’s quarterback Chason Virgil threw for three touchdowns and snuck in two quarterback keepers for touchdowns.
The scoring for West Mesquite began about five minutes into the game after blocking a North Forney punt. West Mesquite’s Tavon Jones scooped up the ball and returned it 6 yards for a touchdown.
Adolf Rios kicked a 26-yard field goal on West Mesquite’s next possession and Virgil ruches for a 1-yard touchdown on their next possession late in the first quarter making it 17-0.
West Mesquite scored 34 points in the second quarter with Virgil connecting with Kris Watson on a 4-yard touchdown, a DJ Jackson 11-yard rush, a Virgil pass to Dee Anderson for 34 yards, Virgil rushing for 30 yards, and Virgil connecting with Skyler Brown for a 2-yard final touchdown before the half to set the score at 51-0.
In the second half, West Mesquite’s Le’Billie Hunter rushed for a 5-yard touchdown, Kris Watson threw to Mark Herrera for a 14-yard touchdown, and Watson rushed for the final touchdown of the game with 2:31 on the clock.
North Forney is scheduled to take on top-ranked District 12-5A contender Mesquite Poteet (6-1, 4-0) on Friday night, October 31, 2014. On November 7, 2014, North Forney will compete against cross-town rival Forney High School (5-2, 2-2) in the Unity Bowl.
