Join the Fight: October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

As October rolls in, communities across the nation come together to observe Breast Cancer Awareness Month—a time dedicated to honoring those affected by this disease, advocating for early detection, and supporting research initiatives aimed at improving treatment options.

Why October?

October was specifically chosen for Breast Cancer Awareness Month to commemorate early advocates and to align with significant global research events. This month-long campaign raises awareness about breast cancer, promotes early detection and screenings, supports patients and survivors, and encourages necessary funding for research.

Cancer Walk 2025: Together for a Cause

Join a Free Community Cancer Walk at Forney Park this Saturday morning October 4th! The event kicks off at 7 a.m. and is open to all who wish to show their support.

Sign up for the walk here!

Walk with Purpose

The theme for this year’s walk is Cancer Walk 2025: Every Color, Every Story. Participants are encouraged to wear any color to represent their loved ones. Each shade symbolizes a story of hope, resilience, or remembrance. Wear a color that represents someone in your life who has battled cancer. This walk is dedicated to those fighting cancer and to the memories of those we have lost. Together, we can step toward awareness, healing, and a brighter tomorrow.

A Call to Action

As we observe National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, let us stand in solidarity with those battling breast cancer and remember those we have lost. According to recent statistics, over 250,000 women and 2,000 men in the U.S. are expected to be diagnosed with some form of breast cancer this year. Fortunately, early detection and advancements in treatment have significantly decreased mortality rates over the past decade.

We encourage all women to speak with their healthcare providers about the importance of mammograms and other early detection methods, as well as ways to reduce their risk of developing breast cancer.
