Kaufman County Commissioners met Aug. 18, 2026, denying an appeal from developer Daves Ranch Terrell, LP to bypass new subdivision regulations after county staff cited a lack of progress. The Court reappointed Michael Taylor as Fire Marshal, approved FY 2027 juvenile detention contracts, and accepted a DA grant. Forney Proposes No-New-Revenue Tax Rate for FY 2027, Adds Public Safety Staffing Amid Rising Utility Costs

At its Aug 18 meeting, Forney City Council reviewed the proposed FY 2027 budget. Council discussed a proposed "no-new-revenue" tax rate of $0.441281. Because average home valuations dropped, the average property tax bill will decrease by $3.81/yr despite the higher rate. However, utility adjustments (water, sewer, trash) will raise monthly household bills by ~$24. The budget funds key staff additions, including an Assistant Police Chief, Fire Training Chief, and new city officers.

Kaufman County Approves Housing Authority to Manage Section 8 Vouchers

Kaufman County Commissioners unanimously voted to create a county housing authority under Chapter 392 of the Texas Local Government Code. The initiative addresses concerns over out-of-county Section 8 vouchers being ported into the area without local notice. Funding for startup costs and leadership will be supported by Forney and Crandall. The court also enacted a 90-day burn ban and set civil process fees at $275.
